Danger Band is about learning to play together as a band and to grow musically as individuals. This site is about learning to operate and maintain a modern web site. For better or for worse, advertising is an important part of web site operations. There are several different types of web site adverting. This site uses three of them: Google ads (called AdSense), Google Search, and Affiliate Programs.
Google AdSense ads are context sensitive ads, mostly on the left side of this site. You’ll notice that many of them are for services offered in the Washington, D.C. area, and many are music related. That is because Google “reads” the context of the site and automatically generates ads “on topic.” Advertisers pay Google for clicks on those ads, and Google pays web sites that choose to publish the ads a very small amount of that revenue. “Click fraud” is a very serious problem for these kinds of ads. Click fraud occurs when people (or machines) click on Google sponsored ads with no intention of buying anything. We are very much against click fraud because it undermines the system, which can be very useful to advertisers and web site operators like us. Do not click on Google ads unless you have some legitimate interest in the subject of the ad. We mean it. Google has very sophisticated ways to identify click fraud, and if they find it, they will terminate a web site’s Adsense Account.
By using the Google Search bar on our home page, this site will also receive a small amount for any Google Ad you click that you may see on the Google results page. Again, click fraud must be avoided.
Finally, we have affiliate ads. We’ve repeated most of them on the right of this page (and added a few more.) This is the best way to support Danger Band through this site. When you click on these ads (and you can click on them as much as you like without violating any policies), the Band will get between 5 and 15 percent of your purchase amount at that affiliated store! We have chosen stores that we think will be of interest to the Band, its friends, fans and families. No friend of Danger should shop at these stores online without getting to them from this site! If you shop online a lot and do not see an affiliate ad for that store here, tell us, and we’ll try to join its affiliate program.
What will Danger do with money it earns from web site advertising? We don’t know. In about a year of operation, the ads on this site have generated 70 cents. Ergo, this explanation!
